Technical Information (updated on 26.12.06)
This site is
best viewed at 1024 x 768 (17" screen) using Internet Explorer (v.6 or
earlier). It has
also been prepared for viewing using Mozilla Firefox (tested to v.1.5.0.9) although you may notice
minor formatting differences in presentation if using Firefox.
It has been brought to our attention that a few users are not immediately seeing
new content as and when it is added to EVO. This is most notable when using beta
or early-release versions of Internet Explorer 7, or other browsers other than
IE6 or Firefox. Please be assured that all newly added content is immediately
viewable from our web servers: you may need to customise your own browser's
settings to ensure that requested content is drawn from the web server on each
and every visit, rather than giving your browser the opportunity of reloading a
previous local copy of the site/page from your PC's cached files. There is a
detailed help guide on how to clear the cache from all commonly used internet
browsers which can be found
here.
Conditions of Use
1. General
Users of the "site", including the domain names detailed above and all
content available via those domain names, and any other related web site hosted by John
Godwin and/or Phoenix Web Hosting Services, are deemed to have read and fully accepted all of the Terms and
Conditions of Use displayed on this page, without exception.
1a.
Copyright
All images displayed on the
"site" remain the
property and copyright of John A
Godwin (2002-2008) unless specifically otherwise stated. No images may be
reproduced, copied, downloaded, stored or further distributed in any form whatsoever without the
specific, prior written permission of the copyright holder. All images displayed
on this site have been digitally watermarked using Digimarc technology (see www.digimarc.com for more
details). Copyscape is also in use. This site, and its contents are protected by UK Copyright Law,
including the DMCA
(Digital Millennium Copyright Act), and legal action will be taken
against those who breach our copyright. Regardless of the geographic
location of visitors to this site, all users agree
that the jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales shall apply to
their use of this web site.
1b.
Guest Images
Guest photographs have been
submitted by official sources and individuals from around the world, and
will be displayed in a manner which clearly identifies the submitter and
the
copyright holder. We only accept guest photographs by prior arrangement:
non-solicited work will not be accepted, and will be deleted without
prior notice.
The act of
submitting photographic content to Emergency Vehicles Online confirms that the
submitter:
-
owns the
copyright to the photographs, and retains the full rights to publish them
without restriction
-
agrees to
grant Emergency Vehicles Online a royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to
publish the submitted content in any way that we see fit
-
agrees that
Emergency Vehicles Online has the sole right to select which images, if any,
to include, and that this decision is final: no correspondence will be
entered into
-
agrees to
fully indemnify John Godwin, Emergency Vehicles Online and Phoenix Web
Hosting Services from any and all claims arising from the use of the
submitted content
-
agrees that
the photographs will be suitably annotated to include both the site name,
and the name of the submitter
-
has not
submitted the same images to any other similar website - EVO will not
publish photographs that have previously been posted elsewhere
-
agrees that
the submitted photographs, if selected for submission, will be included in
pages within the Members Area
In the event
that a submitter does not accept any of the seven conditions above, then they
should not submit content to Emergency Vehicles Online.
Should
an individual have any issue or objection to any guest photograph found
within Emergency Vehicles Online,
please see 1(d) below.
1c. Use of
Official Logos & Crests
Certain emergency
services have officially submitted their crest or logo for inclusion on this
site. All such images will be identified with a suitable notice. All submitted
crests or logos remain the copyright of the emergency service who submitted
them, and may not be reproduced for any purpose whatsoever. We maintain a file of supporting documentation which shows that we
have been granted proper permission to display such crests or logos.
1d. Objections
and Complaints
Should any Emergency Service have any objections to individual photographs
of their vehicles being displayed on this website, please contact us immediately
using the Feedback Form so that appropriate action can be taken.
2.
Status of Emergency Vehicles Online
This web site is not
an official site of any of the Police Forces/Constabularies, Fire
Services/Brigades, Law
Enforcement Agencies or Emergency Services whose vehicles are shown. Whilst many
organisations have
kindly offered us assistance and co-operation in allowing access to photograph their vehicles, that
action does not in any way make such views "official views", and the
copyright remains with John A Godwin (see 1). To that end, the display
of a vehicle shown at any specific location does not in any way indicate
or imply that that location is available to the general public. Many locations
are private property and/or restricted areas.
3.
Links
There are numerous
links from this site to official web sites, as well as to other
privately owned web site connected with emergency services vehicles. Such links are
provided in good faith, and we cannot accept any responsibility for the
continuing suitability of content which will be found by using such
links. Should you discover questionable or unacceptable content whilst using a link from
this site, please contact us immediately so that it may be investigated,
and action taken if necessary. There may be information and/or links
placed within the site to traders or suppliers. This web site acts only
as
an
advertising medium for any such trader or supplier, and will not in any
way be a party in any transaction that may result. We do not endorse or
approve any products or services: potential buyers are advised to seek
independent advice if required.
4. Members
Area
The Members Area
of this web site is only available to those authorised persons who have chosen
to purchase a subscription to the site. Once notification of a payment has been received, an
individual user name and password will be emailed to the member, which will be required to enter the Members Area of the web site. All
access to the Members Area is logged, including the member's IP address, and any
evidence of unauthorised disclosure of login information to other persons will
result in the cancellation of access to
the Members Area for the offending individual, without refund.
Emergency Vehicles Online reserves the absolute right to refuse to grant access
to the Members Area, without having to provide a reason, and no correspondence
regarding such a decision will be entered into. In such circumstances, a full
refund will be made.
Whilst each
payment is
acknowledged with one year's access to the Members Area,
this does not confirm or imply that the Members Area will continue to operate
throughout that year. Similarly, we will not be held
liable for any unavailability issues affecting the Members Area. Emergency
Vehicles Online uses subscription payments to offset the running costs of operating and improving
this site. There is no contract or obligation implied or granted by or to users
of the Members Area. The copyright
and image protection conditions that apply to the
site as a whole shall equally apply to all content displayed within the Members
Area, without exception.
5. Paypal and
Nochex
Persons making
donations to the web site, and receiving access to the Members Area in return,
will be making payments by Paypal or Nochex. These services are secure payment systems, and at no time will
Emergency Vehicles Online see any of the payment
details submitted. We simply receive a confirmation email from Paypal or Nochex that a
payment has been made, and soon after will arrange
to set up an individual user name and password (see Section 4). We will not be
responsible or liable for the unavailability of the
Paypal or Nochex systems, or for errors or delays caused by using these systems.
6.
Emergency Vehicles Photography
Photographing police,
fire
or other emergency vehicles is best undertaken under the control of recognised
organisations or enthusiast groups or at public open days. Care should always be taken to obtain proper
permission before attempting to photograph any vehicle, and even when
obtained do not obstruct the police or other emergency services in the execution of their duties. Do
not attempt to trespass into garages, yards or other vehicle parking
areas: with the heightened security levels in the UK and elsewhere, be aware
that your apparently innocent intentions may not be construed as such by
others. Other than vehicles photographed on the public highway, we have
always sought proper permission well in advance from the Emergency
Service
concerned to photograph their vehicles.
7.
Unmarked Vehicles etc
We have a policy of never photographing or publishing pictures of
unmarked police vehicles: understand that such vehicles are unmarked for
a reason, and their anonymity must be respected. If there is an
objection to any of the photographs being displayed on this web site,
please contact us using the Feedback Form and we will resolve the matter immediately.
Please note that some Emergency Services have specifically requested that the
registration numbers or markings of certain vehicles are removed, a request
we will always fully comply with.
8.
Comments & Feedback
We welcome
constructive comments and suggestions on this web site and its contents.
Please send your correspondence using the Feedback Form. Please observe
the notes at the top of the Feedback Form. We endeavour to respond
to messages the same day. All messages include the sender's IP address:
anonymous messages will be deleted automatically.
9.
Environmental Information
We are extremely proud to be able to report that Emergency Vehicles Online
is now a "carbon neutral" website - indeed it is the first emergency vehicle
website in the world to achieve this status. We use COCO2 to offset the carbon
emissions that are used in the management and operation of this website: our
current status can be verified by clicking the logo on the front page of
Emergency Vehicles Online. Our
offsetting is used in a variety of ways, including the planting of trees,
investment in new technology such as wind farms, or investment in renewable
energy sources.
10. Data
Protection & Privacy Policy
Phoenix Web Hosting Services, who own and operate this Website, and the name
"Emergency Vehicles Online" are registered under the Data Protection Act
(registration number Z1074036). All personal data acquired and processed in the
course of providing this Website is in accordance with the above referenced
registration.
